The Sennheiser RS 180 is a wireless headphone mainly designed for use with home entertainment systems.  It does however work very well for music as well.  Utilizing Kleer Technology allows streaming of CD quality sound over a radio frequency.  This allows for clearer higher quality sound than bluetooth, as well as an increased range.  The RS180 also has a rechargeable  battery.  Simply rest the headset on the transmitter/stand and it recharges the battery.  This is a great solution if you either want to listen without disturbing others, or if you would like to have the headphones set to a higher volume than what is being played in the room.

Sound

The RS180s are an amazing sounding pair of headphones without taking into account that they are wireless.  The fact that they are wireless only makes them all the more impressive.  What is it that makes them so amazing? Firstly these will have you thinking you are listening to speakers rather than headphones, a big plus for home theater.  They are open back and have a large spacious sound, the sound is clear and separates well.  What this means is for movies and TV you get all the action, while still being able to make out the dialog.  The main reason many people get these is for home theater use, but they are great for music as well. For music these sound very similar to the Sennheiser HD598.  Just like the HD598 they are a bit bass light, but they are clear with a very balanced sound.  Listening to movies or music with this while having the freedom to move around is very satisfying.

Comfort/Fit

Lighter than you would expect with good padding on both the headband and around the ears, these are a very comfortable headphone.  Add to that the lack of a cable and the freedom that comes with it, these will be some of the most comfortable headphones you’re likely to ever wear.  The RS180 is a fully around the ear headphone with a velour earpad so they don’t get hot or sweaty.  You are able to wear these a long time with a run time of 24 hours off a 16 hour charge. Simply place them on the charger when not in use and they will be ready for you the next time you need them.  Overall, these are incredibly comfortable and well fitting headphones that you can forget you have on rather easily.

Versatility

These aren’t headphones you can easily take with you places, they more or less are tied down to a single source.  However they are very versatile when it comes to the sound.  Musically these will work great for most genres though lacking the bass needed to be a great hiphop/dubstep headphone.  They work incredibly well with a home theater system as well.  Whether it’s movies or tv shows the RS180 delivers clear dialog with fantastic all around sound.  This can be an all in one sound solution in environments that having a home stereo system on is not possible.  In the office, at the apartment, or at home while people are sleeping these are a very versatile headphone.

Value

The first in Sennheiser’s wireless home audio line to use KLEER technology, these headphones are a great value at $330.  You can get cheaper headsets to fit this purpose, but the KLEER technology really makes these stand out as a cut above the rest.  Add to that great sound performance, a phenomenal battery life, and a great build quality, you have an amazing value on these headphones from Sennheiser.

Conclusion

This is a phenomenal headphone from Sennheiser.  The RS180 has been one of my favorites for the past 5 years.  It has a lot of things going for it.  Amazing sound and comfort with the freedom of a wireless headphone make this one great.  Along with that, you have great battery life and signal from KLEER technology and it all adds up to a phenomenal package. I can’t say enough how much I like these headphones.  Other than improving the bass response on these, I’m not sure how the RS220 could beat them, but it will be fun to check them out in the future.
